River Graffiti is an ongoing documentary series I began in April 2025, capturing the hidden world of graffiti along Toronto’s river systems. For years, these waterways have served as open-air galleries — where emerging artists hone their craft and veteran writers leave behind intricate, defiant works. The concrete walls, bridges, and infrastructure along the rivers become ever-changing canvases, layered with paint, history, and intention.
While most passersby catch only fleeting glimpses of these pieces from a distance, I set out to get closer — to trace the brushstrokes, the spray lines, the cracks where paint yields to rust and rot. Through my lens, I explore not just the artwork itself, but the raw surfaces that carry it: the stories of walls layered again and again with fresh tags, the tension between creation and decay, and the quiet transformation of these urban spaces. Each photograph reveals a palimpsest of artistic expression — a living archive of color, weather, and time.
